Civil Engineer

The Civil Engineer is responsible for the design and permitting of new fiber-optic telecommunications networks. Candidate should have experience in design and construction management of commercial building or utility infrastructure. The engineer will manage projects and as built documents with municipal Engineers and Public Works representatives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop/improve company designs and engineering processes
  • Plan, prepare, and complete drawings for construction of new municipal fiber optic networks including underground conduit and cable plants, head end facilities, building entrances, manhole placements, highway, railroad, and utility crossings.
  • Identify conflicts with outside plant facilities, select routes and equipment
  • Preparation and submittal of permits, traffic control plans, and easements
  • Communicate with state and local parties regarding permitting and inspections
  • Coordinate with third parties regarding installation, conflicts, moves, adds, and changes
  • Provide construction plans and guidance to project managers
  • Remain up to date on local, state, and federal regulations and requirements
  • Work closely with management, design technicians, foreman, and subcontractors

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and make decisions with limited information
  • Professional Civil Licensure / PE Stamp preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail
  • Familiar with telecommunications network construction

Required Qualifications

  • Able to read and understand utility related records and road prints
  • Experience using CAD, GIS, or similar tools for network design
  • Direct work with mapping programs
  • BS in Civil Engineering
  • Three years of experience in OSP / Utility construction or related field
  • Prior experience in obtaining permits
  • Able to work in the office and in the field
  • Ability to travel as needed
