The Backbone Network Sales Engineer serves as a liaison in the sales process when complex and technical equipment or services are involved. You will identify network product solutions that will fulfil the requested customer experiences.

Position Summary:

The Backbone Network Sales Engineer serves as a liaison in the sales process when complex and technical equipment or services are involved. You will identify network product solutions that will fulfil the requested customer experiences. This position will collaboratively participate in efforts to create process efficiencies, process improvements and integration. We are looking for a Sales Engineer who will foster a culture of collaboration, open communication, and forward thinking.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Consults with existing and potential clients to assess and understand equipment needs and systems requirements.
  • Provides expertise and support to sales teams to communicate products, services, and client needs.
  • Drafts or assists with the drafting of presentations and other documentation and materials that explain products and services to customers.
  • Ensures that customer needs are met, which may include product modifications.
  • Proposes improved materials or products to customers and explains benefits of changes.
  • Provides support to customers and resolves problems with installed equipment.
  • Prepares product orders and schedules deliveries.
  • Assists with research and development of new products.
  • Directly manage all business development efforts with customers.
  • Create a positive, high quality customer service experience to all stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Assist in streamlining and improving processes by collaborating interdepartmentally and with other internal teams to identify areas of performance improvement.
  • Develop project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related product or sales experience required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Desired Skills:

  • Blend of sales ability and technical knowledge that enables determination of client needs, spec out complex technical systems, and ensure that pricing meets the needs of both their employer’s expected profit margins and client’s budget.
  • Experience with telecommunications products and services like Internet circuits, transport circuits, waves, metro ethernet, dark fiber, IRU’s.
  • Experience with GIS a plus.
  • Familiarity with customer premise network equipment (CPE’s, routers, switches)
  • Ability to design DLR’s for circuits.
  • Proven ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and identify solutions.
  • Excellent sales and customer service skills with a proven ability to explain technical products to non-technical audiences.

  • Experience in project management and driving process improvement.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to effectively communicate, prioritize, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Drive.
  • Strong attention-to-detail, organizational skills, time management skills, and proven ability to meet deadlines with thorough follow through.
