Television Troubleshooting

When television viewing problems occur, the first check should always be to verify your cables are securely fastened, both to your TV and wall jack.

My remote control does not affect the television. What can I do?

Weak batteries are almost always the problem. Try changing channels and turning the power on and off using the buttons on the front of your receiver. If that works, it’s time to replace the batteries in your remote.

I am having an issue with my DISH™ service. How can I fix it?

  1. Try holding down the power button on the front of your receiver and waiting until the light beside the button goes out. Wait 20 seconds and then press the button again, turning the receiver back on.
  2. Unplug the receiver from its power source and wait 20 seconds before plugging it back into your power source. Turn the receiver on and verify operation of the receiver. A powercycle will fix many problems on your DISH™ receiver.

I am having an issue with my DIRECTV® service. How can I fix it?

  1. All of the receivers should have a flip-down door with a red reset button. This reset button will also powercycle the device.
  2. Unplug the receiver from its power source and wait 20 seconds before plugging it back into your power source. Turn the receiver on and verify operation of the receiver. A powercycle will fix many problems on a receiver.

Why is my screen black, snowy or blue?

This usually happens if you have loose cables, the receiver is not turned on, or the television input setting is incorrect. Checking the following may correct the issue:

  • Check your cable connections and tighten them if loose.
  • Your VCR is turned on or off, depending on how you have it configured for your entertainment center.
  • If you use an Audio/Video or S-Video connection, verify the television is tuned to 00, Video 1, Video 2, Video 3 or another input setting. Use the INPUT button on the remote control to toggle these settings.

If this doesn’t fix the problem, try resetting your receiver by following the steps above for DISH™ and DIRECTV®. Sometimes a simple reset will resolve this problem.
