Preparing Your Computer - General Recommendations

  • Turn off file and printer sharing in your operating system.
  • Run critical operating system updates and turn on automatic updates in Windows.
  • Install and/or run Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software and turn on automatic updates.
  • Plug your computer into a surge protector (many power strips have one built-in).
  • Enable a firewall.

Standard Ethernet Connections

Minimum System Requirements - PC & MAC

  • 10/100 Base-T network interface card (also referred to as an Ethernet card or NIC).
  • Windows ME/2000/XP/Vista or Mac OS 10.x or greater.
  • Ethernet data cable (Cat5 or better) available from most computer, office supply or electronics stores. The cable should be an 8 pin to 8 pin connector. One end of the Ethernet data cable is plugged directly into the wall jack and the other end is plugged into the back of your computer. You may see a small light when properly connected.

Cable Modem Connections

Minimum System Requirements - PC & MAC

  • A DOCSIS 2.0-compliant cable modem and a coax cable (available from most computer, office supply or electronics stores).
  • 10/100 Base-T network interface card (also referred to as an Ethernet card or NIC).
  • Windows ME/2000/XP/Vista or Mac OS 10.x or greater.
  • Ethernet data cable (Cat5 or better) available from most computer, office supply or electronics stores. The cable should be an 8 pin to 8 pin connector. One end of the Ethernet data cable is plugged directly into the cable modem and the other end is plugged into the back of your computer. You may see a small light when properly connected.

Wireless Connections

Minimum System Requirements - PC & MAC

  • Wireless B or G Network Card installed and confirmed active.
  • Windows ME/2000/XP/Vista or Mac OS 10.x or greater.

Wireless Suggestions - PC & MAC

  • Unplug Ethernet data cable.
  • Use Microsoft or Apple certified drivers whenever possible.

Wireless Setup for Windows Vista

To connect to your Pavlov Media Wireless Network:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Select Connect To from the Vista Desktop.
  3. When the dialog box appears, select the wireless network to connect. In most cases, the network should be shown as “pavlovmedia” followed by a series of alpha-numeric characters (example: pavlovmedia_123A).
  4. Single click the “pavlovmedia” connection with the highest signal strength.
  5. Click Connect.

If the pavlovmedia connection is not listed in the dialog box, choose Set up a connection or Network.

On the Choose a Connection Option page, select Connect to the Internet. If this option still does not list Pavlov Media, choose Manually connect to a wireless network.

In the Manually connect to a wireless network dialog box, fill in the following:

  1. Network name: Pavlov Media.
  2. Select the Start this connection automatically checkbox. Click Next.

You should see Successfully added in the dialog box.

Wireless Setup For Windows XP

  1. Click the Start button and select the Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel, click Network Connections.
  3. In the Network Connections window, open >Wireless Network Connections. This will bring up the Wireless Network Connection Status window. (If this is not the window you see, please refer to the instructions for your wireless network card on how to find and configure the SSID.)
  4. Click the Properties button. This will open the Wireless Network Connection Properties window.
  5. Check the Use Windows checkbox. This will open the Available Networks listbox, and the SSID of “pavlovmedia” should now be displayed.
  6. Select the SSID “pavlovmedia” and click Configure.
  7. Under the Association tab, select “Open” for the Network Authentication and “Disabled” for Data Encryption.
  8. Select OK at the bottom of the window to return to the Wireless Network Connection Properties window.
  9. The SSID “pavlovmedia” should now be listed under “Preferred Networks” in the Connection Properties window.
  10. Select “pavlovmedia” in the Preferred Networks window and give it priority by using the Move Up button to shift it to the top of the listbox.
  11. Select OK on the Connection Properties window.

Wireless Setup For Macintosh OS 10.x

  1. Click the Apple Menu and select System Preferences.
  2. In System Preferences, select Network to open the Network window.
  3. Click on Location and choose New Location. Name it “pavlovmedia”.
  4. Change the Show menu to display the AirPort settings.
  5. Select the AirPort tab to see the AirPort connection settings.
  6. Turn on the AirPort Card by selecting Turn AirPort On from the AirPort Status Menu in the upper right-hand corner.
  7. Select Apply Now.

Wireless Troubleshooting Quick List

  • Is your wireless card turned on? Please refer to your vendor’s instructions.
  • Check the signal strength and make sure you’re still connected.
  • If you’ve moved your computer, you may need to select another “pavlovmedia” connection that has a higher signal strength.

If you need to call Pavlov Media Customer Support with a wireless issue, please have the following information ready:

  • Type of wireless card.
  • SSID of the selected connection.
  • Type of drivers being used: Vendor-supplied or Microsoft.
